Guest artist Melissa June spent the day at Scholars Academy teaching Master Classes, providing over 60 students in our Dance Department with this amazing opportunity. The classes were designed to address character qualities like acceptance, respect, teamwork and cooperation through a highly engaging dance workshop. Classes focused on providing students with the tools to access their own individual ideas and emotions through improvisational movement. Mrs. June’s extensive career in dance was on full display as she engaged with each class, providing every student with a pathway to explore their own movement potential.

Dancers Receive Scholarships to La Roche University! This past Friday dancers at Scholars Academy were treated to a Master Class with world renowned dancer, teacher and choreographer, Maria Caruso. Ms. Caruso has an expansive portfolio of choreographic and teaching engagements at hundreds of conservatories, universities, and companies in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas and her performances are globally recognized for her passion and innovative movement style. She also serves as the Dance Department Chair at La Roche University. Her class here at Scholars provided our students with an opportunity to dance with one of the most respected teachers, whose class combines a strong classical ballet technique with her strong roots in modern dance. After observing our students, Ms. Caruso offered our graduating seniors, Kelcee Robinson and Aniya Morris, each a $64,000 scholarship to attend La Roche University in the Fall. In addition, Kelcee, Aniya and Latia Thomas were all offered $1300 scholarships to attend Bodiography Dance Center's Summer Intensive. Scholars Academy, Thomasville High School and our District are proud to recognize these students and their talent. These scholarships represent the many years of hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence that each student has invested in their education.
