The Thomasville City School System requested increased security this morning at Thomasville High School in response to a post on social media that some students had interpreted to be a threat to the high school. The social media post was investigated by both the Thomasville Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and it was determined that there was no credible threat to the high school. The post that was cited in the threat was taken out of context and was not specific to Thomasville High School.
Out of an abundance of caution, security at the school was heightened while the matter was investigated. All scheduled activities will proceed as normal at the high school today.
“We appreciate the full support of the Thomasville Police Department in helping to keep our schools safe,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Dusty Kornegay. “The police department immediately engaged their investigative team who was able to track down the post that was at the root of the alert and found that there was no specific credible threat to the school related to the posting that triggered the alert.”

Last week, the students in Mrs. Cook's class at Jerger Elementary were making math fun working on Cheez-It Area!

🌿🔬 Biology in Action! 🔬🌿
Our biology students had a hands-on experience this past Friday in Mrs. Russo's class at Thomasville High School!
They examined prepared slides, created their own slides using cheek cells, and observed samples of pond water from two different locations under microscopes. 🦠👀 It was a fantastic way to dive deep into the microscopic world and explore the diversity of life all around us! 🌊💧

As part of the literacy initiative at Scott Elementary, staff is focused on helping students build their own at-home libraries and foster a love for reading. Stephanie Sharp, the Media Specialist at Scott Elementary, expressed her enthusiasm in announcing that their grant proposal to the Thomasville Antique Show Foundation has been approved! Thanks to this grant, Scott Elementary has obtained new books and an Inchy Bookworm Vending Machine for the school.
Students who meet their individual Accelerated Reading (AR) goals will earn tokens that they can use in the Book Vending Machine, which is stocked with a variety of engaging and diverse books appropriate for different reading levels. This initiative ensures that every student has the opportunity to acquire several new books each school year.
To commemorate this exciting new addition, we hosted an official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this afternoon at Scott. Thank you again to Thomasville Antique Show Foundation, plus Literacy for Thomas County and Thomasville City School officials and Board Members that were in attendance.
