🎒✨ Getting Ready for Middle School—One Visit at a Time! ✨🎒

This week, our 5th graders across Thomasville City Schools had the opportunity to meet Dr. Sims and Mrs. Rayburn from The Scholars Academy as they stopped by our elementary schools to help students begin preparing for the transition to middle school.

Students heard real talk about what middle school is like, learned about exciting academic opportunities and activities, and received helpful tips to feel confident, supported, and ready for this next big step. We were also excited to have former Scotties Malia Gloster and Chauncey Coleman join the conversation and share their own experiences with our Scott Elementary 5th graders. .

These visits are all about helping students envision their future, ease worries, and build excitement as they prepare for middle school in a welcoming, supportive environment.

We’re grateful to Dr. Sims and Mrs. Rayburn for taking the time to invest in our students and help families better understand the many pathways available through The Scholars Academy.

📌Rising middle school students and their families are invited to attend Scholars Academy Information Night on Tuesday, February 3, from 6–7 p.m. in the Scholars Academy Auditorium.
Families of current 4th graders are also encouraged to attend and learn more about the Scholars Academy experience, academic opportunities, and what the middle school years can offer.

🧪🌿 Science in Action at Thomasville High School! 🌿🧪

In Mrs. Russo’s Environmental Science class, students tested five different cleaning products to determine which were most effective against bacteria. Through hands-on investigation and data analysis, they discovered that vinegar proved to be a strong performer—right alongside bleach.

This real-world lab helped students connect classroom science to everyday applications while building critical thinking and research skills.

❄️🧥 Bundle Up, Bulldogs! 🧥❄️

With cold and below-freezing temperatures expected over the next few days, we ask families to please ensure students come to school dressed warmly each day.

✅ Bundle up with layers:
• Heavy coat or jacket
• Hat and gloves
• Warm socks
• Extra layers as needed

🚌 For Bus Riders:
If possible, students should wait inside until just a few minutes before their scheduled pickup time to limit exposure to the cold. Dressing appropriately is especially important in case of unexpected delays.

Thank you for helping us keep our Bulldogs safe, warm, and ready to learn.

✨ TCS at Its Best! ✨

We are proud to celebrate two outstanding Thomasville City Schools students who were recently recognized through the American History Essay Contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

From Jerger Elementary, congratulations to Powell Swann, winner of the 5th Grade DAR Essay Contest. Powell was invited to the Thomasville Public Library, where he enjoyed lunch and had the honor of reading his essay aloud—earning enthusiastic praise from students and teachers alike. His 5th grade ELA teacher, Mrs. Gerleman, was also present to help celebrate this special achievement.

From Scholars Academy, congratulations to Aubrey Spivey, the first-place winner of the local Thomasville DAR Chapter American History Essay Contest. In celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States, Aubrey wrote a thoughtful and patriotic essay on Thomas Jefferson. Her essay has advanced to the Southwest Georgia District DAR State Chair for further consideration. Aubrey was also invited to present her essay at the Thomasville DAR Chapter’s January meeting, joined by her parents and teacher, Mrs. Shiver.

We are grateful to the Thomasville DAR Chapter for their continued support of our students and their commitment to encouraging academic excellence and civic pride. Congratulations to Powell and Aubrey for representing TCS so well!

🎨✨ A Beautiful Evening Celebrating “Little Things” ✨🎨

What an incredible night at the “Little Things: Exceptional Students Uniquely Created Artwork” reception this past Thursday at the Thomasville Center for the Arts. Our community came together to celebrate the creativity, joy, and talent of our exceptional students—and the artwork on display truly spoke volumes.

From bold colors and thoughtful details to pieces filled with personality and heart, each work of art told a story and reflected the unique voices of our students. It was inspiring to see families, staff, and community members pause, connect, and celebrate the power of creativity and inclusion.

A heartfelt thank you to Friends & Stars, the Thomasville Center for the Arts, our teachers and staff, and everyone who helped make this exhibition and reception so special. Most importantly, congratulations to our amazing student artists—you are the reason this evening was so meaningful.

The exhibit will remain on display through May 12, and we encourage the community to stop by and experience these powerful “little things” that leave a lasting impact.
