"Thomasville City Schools Superintendent Accepts New Position” 

Thomasville, GA, January 13, 2020 - Thomasville City Schools Superintendent Ben Wiggins has accepted a new position as superintendent of the Colquitt County School System. 

Chairman of the Board Kejar Butler said, “The Thomasville City Board of Education congratulates Mr. Ben Wiggins on being named the sole finalist for the Colquitt County Superintendent vacancy. We are grateful for Mr. Wiggins for his service to Thomasville City Schools and wish him well.”

The search for a new superintendent will begin immediately with an emphasis on continuing the school system’s strong commitment to academics, arts and athletics.  

“The Board of Education is committed to beginning the search for our next superintendent, a passionate champion for children, who will continue positioning our students for success,” said Butler. 

In 2020, the Thomasville City Schools ranked #1 in SAT Scores out of 38 counties in the Southwest Georgia region for four out of its past five years, ranking #2 behind Lee County Schools in 2018. This achievement put the school district in the top 11% academically of all school districts statewide. The Board of Education is committed to also continuing its strong emphasis on academic success in support of every student’s future.    

Thomasville City Schools was founded in 1900. Approximately 2900 students are currently enrolled in five schools within the district. The district is comprised of three PreK-5 elementary buildings, one 6-8 middle school, and one 9-12 high school. The Scholars Academy for grades 6-12 operates as a school-within-a-school program and is housed on the middle school campus. The Mission of the school system is to inspire the best problem solvers, innovators, life-long learners, and productive citizens of our community.
