We believe that all students have a right to educational experiences that challenge their individual development whether it is below, at, or beyond the level of their age peers.
Thomasville City Schools provides Special Education services for students who have met eligibility criteria in accordance with the state of Georgia rules for implementing IDEA and its regulations which ensure:
The rights of children with disabilities and their parents are protected
Services are available for students ages 3 to their 22nd birthday and may be provided in the regular classroom, a separate classroom, or in a combination of settings.
Students may need special education services for part of the day or for the whole day based on their needs.
Individual Education Programs (IEPs) are developed by a team and reviewed annually.
The goal of educational services for gifted students in Thomasville City Schools is to provide for:
the development of individual potential,
the enhancement of the student's self-concept and,
the advancement toward becoming an independent learner through differentiated curricula beyond the opportunities and experiences of the regular classroom .
Students who have a disability that significantly impacts learning but does not require special education services may qualify for a 504 Plan.
