Virus Scan Instructions

 

New viruses are discovered every day.  As they are discovered, new fixes are created for them.  Once a month, it's a good idea to update the McAfee Virus Scan on your computer by downloading any new patches from the www.mcafee.com web site.  Here's how: 

 

  1. Go to www.mcafee.com

 

  1. Click Download

 

  1. Under Anti-virus Updates, click Version 4X & Go

 

  1. Click Download Now

 

  1. Click Save to Disk (but you're not really going to save it on a disk -- click it anyway)

 

  1. Click Save As -- and save it to Desktop

 

  1. After it saves, close out that box

 

  1. Click on the DAT file on the desktop (Globe symbol) This updates your version of virus scan so that it is scanning for even the most recently discovered viruses.

 

  1. To scan for viruses:  Click Start -> Programs -> Network Associates -> Virus Scan ->Action -> (Set the action to clean or delete the file automatically, depending on your preference) ->Click Scan Now
