Our system is one of 21 independent school systems in Georgia. Independent systems originally came into existence when citizens decided that they wanted to go beyond the level of support for education that was being given at the time by county governments. Fortunately, there is no longer a significant difference between the level of support for education among cities and counties as communities everywhere have realized that the job of educating our children is paramount. However, the tradition of excellence that began in 1900 in Thomasville remains today. The best way for you to be convinced of this is to visit any of our schools, and see for yourself what our schools are doing.  

The task of educating our young people is an awesome one. Some would even say that, given the current demographics, schools today may be fighting a losing battle. The attitude of our team is that of "defying the odds." That attitude has been internalized by our employees at all levels and in all program areas through the years and will continue in the future. We are committed to providing the best education possible to each student who walks through the doors of our schools. We are confident that we can accomplish this. 

The Thomasville City School System has enjoyed the reputation as a leading school system in Georgia for years. In 1965, our system became one of the first school systems in south Georgia to become accredited K-12 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our system has always been recognized as a system that is bold enough to act on innovations. We are now entering an exciting time of retooling in education. Through the support of a progressive city government, schools in Thomasville are leading the way in infusing technology as a teaching tool.
