THURSDAY, March 11th was an early release day to allow for travel to the THS basketball team's state playoff game in Macon at 5:30pm. The exam that was previously scheduled for Thursday at 1:20 will be given on Tuesday, March 16th at 1:20 to allow students and teachers time for study and review.
Class schedule for the week of March 15-19: Monday, March 15 - Student/teacher holiday Tuesday, March 16 - B day (6th period exam) Wednesday, March 17 - A day Thursday, March 18 - B day Friday, March 19 - A day
All juniors will be taking the GHSGT March 22nd - 25th. The days are as follows: 3/22 - Social Studies 3/23 - Math 3/24 - Science 3/25 - Language Arts 3/26 - Make Ups All students will test in the Bulldog Café, and they need to be ready to test at 8:00am. Juniors should be present and on time.
It's here. . . time to sign up for Science Academy! Seventh grade will be studying marine biology and traveling to Tampa Bay for snorkeling and meeting scientists backstage at Sea World. Sessions will start Friday, March 26th and are held each Friday after school until 5:00pm. The four-day adventure is set for May 18-21. A $250 deposit must be paid by the first session. Community Service Opportunity: Come out and join your fellow students for the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup on March 27th from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Click HERE for a flyer and HERE for more specific information. See Mrs. Rinehart for further explanation and to sign up.
All students should be logging the required 20 hours of yearly community service. Click HERE or on the "Community Service" link to print a form on which to log hours. Community service logs are due to grade-level sponsors BEFORE the last day of school: 6th - Miller & Mrs. Rinehart, 7th - Haydel & Mrs. Niswonger, 8th - Daily & Winter, 9th - Beaty & Mr. Niswonger, 10th - Kornegay & Cranford, 11th - Meyer & White, and 12th - Riggs & Stowers.
Jostens will conduct an assembly Friday, March 19 in the cafeteria at Thomasville High School for all 10th graders at Thomasville High School and Scholars Academy. The program should start at 8:05 a.m. Students planning on ordering a class ring should be aware that deposits range from $50 to $100 depending on the package.
Congratulations to the high school Science Olympiad for placing first in the region! The team out-scored 20 other teams to earn the region title. They will advance to state competition next month. Go to the "Academic Spotlight" for details.

Thomasville Cultural Center's Youth Art Show: Bradley Parke - 3rd place for pastel drawing, Justin Brotzman - Award of Excellence for watercolor. Brantley Ivey - Honorable Mention for acrylic painting, Olivia Oglesby - Honorable Mention for acrylic painting. The exhibit will be on display throughout March in honor of Youth Art Month. The Cultural Center is hosting the Youth Arts Festival on March 20th that is free to the public. What inspires you to create art?
Senior orders will be delivered on Tuesday, March 30 at Thomasville High School. Any balance due must be paid with cash or money order only.

HOSA is sponsoring a Blood Drive on April 21st in front of THS from 9-2pm. Since there was such a good turn out last time, they will be bringing two buses this time. Students 17 and older may donate without parental consent; 16 needs to have a signed parental consent form. Check with the office for a form. Everyone needs to have picture ID with them, and donors receive a t-shirt.
Just in case you missed it, there is a new section on the Scholars Academy homepage: "Academic Spotlight." Please view this area where we show off the academic achievements of our scholars.
Prom is April 16th. Juniors must pay Prom dues in order to attend. Seniors who did not pay or attend last year must pay dues as well. The cost is $40, and is due no later than March 15th. NO checks will be accepted after March 1st. Click HERE to see examples of appropriate attire. The dress code will be strictly enforced, so please check so that students will be allowed to enjoy Prom.

A letter and
registration form has gone home with students for parents wishing
to register to use the "Parent Portal" on our TEMS student
information system. Please read the announcement which explains
that the parent/guardian wishing to obtain the secure login must
come to the school in person to present identification. If you
have children at multiple schools, it is only necessary to turn in
the form and present ID at one of the schools. Click on the "Forms" link above for copies of
the announcement and registration form. The Broadcast Video class is in full swing with new episodes of Barker TV. Go to online newspaper, The Barker, www.tcitys.org/ths/barker, to see the show.

Attention Math 1 and Math 2 Students! Any student who is having trouble and wanting help in Math 1 or Math 2 should come to math tutoring Monday - Thursday from 12:50 - 1:15. The schedule is: M & W -- Ms. Niswonger’s room (121) and T & Th -- Ms. Meyer’s room (B4). Get a pass from Ms. Meyer or Ms. Niswonger and report at 12:50 in the appropriate room.
Important Announcements and Opportunities from Mrs. Bryan in Guidance: The Kiwanis Club sponsors students from ages 14 - 18 to attend the Key Leaders Program. This leadership program is scheduled for March 26 - 28, 2010. The Golden Key Kiwanis group would like to sponsor about 4 - 5 students from the Scholars Academy. Please see Mrs. Bryan if you are interested in attending.

Each year Mrs. Bryan meets with each junior and his or her parent(s) to select courses for the senior year, discuss grades and SAT scores, look at HOPE scholarship eligibility, etc. Juniors need to have a parent call Mrs. Bryan to schedule a meeting as soon as possible.
Students are eligible to receive academic letter jackets or patches for a letter jacket that they have earned in other areas. Please see Mrs. Bryan if you are interested. Students must have completed all volunteer hours and meet 3 out of the following 5 conditions: 1. Made a 3 or better on an AP examination. 2. Received a 1st place in individual or team academic competition. 3. Received a perfect score on a section of a standardized test such as EOCT, ACT, SAT or GHSGT. 4. Participated on a least two academic teams or at two academic competitions. 5. Made 1800 or higher on the three combined SAT sections.
QuestBridge
is a College Prep Scholarship program, which provides more than
1,000 awards that equip outstanding low-income high school
juniors with the knowledge necessary to compete for admission to
leading colleges. Juniors may access information at this
website
www.questbridge.org.
The online scholarship application is free of
