Dear Jerger Families, Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year "Where Today's Learners Become Tomorrow's Leaders." We continue to appreciate your input and involvement in your child's education. Jerger truly operates as a family. Students in pre-k through fifth grade have the opportunity to spend seven years on our campus growing and learning to become tomorrow's leaders. As a family, we share the responsibility for providing a supportive learning environment where students are actively involved in the learning process. Our mission as teachers, administrators and parents is to help our students develop to their greatest potential and to prepare them to be responsible, productive members of society. Jerger made AYP (adequate yearly progress) for the 2008-2009 school year. We will continue to work to meet the needs of all of our students and recognize that students learn in different ways. Our instructional practices incorporate a variety of learning activities and provide opportunities beyond the regular curriculum. Again this year, we are providing students in grades 4 and 5 with hands-on, student centered, inquiry based learning experiences, which emphasize the study of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The JETS program at Jerger addresses the national concern for students to become proficient in STEM fields. We look forward to our Super Science III on October 17th. Because we recognize that our students are diverse, the Thomasville City School System provides band and strings instruction in grades four and five. We also provide music, physical education, technology instruction and Spanish for our students. We partner with the Thomasville Cultural Center in an effort to provide art to our students through the Arts Outreach Program. For the first time this year, the Thomasville City School System has an after-school program for our pre-k and kindergarten students on the Jerger campus. We are excited to be able to provide this program for our pre-k and kindergarten students. Thank you for recognizing the connection between being academically successful and daily attendance. We are aware that elementary students will from time to time be sick. However, please make sure you send in a written excuse once your child returns to school. It is important that your child arrive on time and stay for the full academic day. If possible, please schedule doctors' appointments after 3:00 p.m. It is our mission to prepare our students to become lifelong learners. Thank you for joining hands with us on your child's educational journey. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the school office at 229-225-2625.
